The Sorcerer’s Curse is Now Live on Amazon

I am also happy to announce that the second book in The Mummy’s Curse Mini-SeriesThe Sorcerer’s Curse is now live and available for purchase on Amazon. It is also available on Kindle Unlimited. The final book in the Mini-Series is coming along and will be ready for its release on the 18th of July.

The Sorcerers Curse

Things were going well for me and Serkhet, or so I thought. I had graduated from college and received my bachelor’s degree, which was a momentous occasion, but it was trumped by Serkhet’s second marriage proposal. This time, it was more romantic. I was glowing with happiness, but it didn’t last long. Everything started to go downhill after Serkhet asked for us to move to Egypt. Maybe he was just homesick. But I started to notice things. I thought the curse was broken or maybe I was just starting to see who Serkhet really was. Then, I met a man who calls himself the sorcerer. He offered me a chance to change events in my past, putting me on a different path. A way to alter my future. Would Serkhet go back to being the man I knew him as, or would I decide to take the sorcerer’s offer?

DP: Menagerie

Today’s Daily Prompt, Menagerie, is all about pets. Do you have them and if not, why?

I’m about 4 years old in this picture, holding our dog named Buffy.

I remember having pets growing up, mostly dogs. It was just a part of life to have one, if not two dogs or cats in the household.

When I got out of the Navy, I decided civilian life was dull, that it was missing something. I went to the local animal shelter, asked to see the ones they were about to put down, and adopted myself a cat. Actually, she adopted me.

I must have held fifteen of them, all adults, both male and female. All of them were cute and cuddly, making my choice to pick just one very hard. Then I held an adult female Maine Coon. She didn’t mew or purr, even after I talked calmly to her for a few minutes. I scratched her head for a few seconds longer and she leaned up and licked me twice on my chin. It was in that moment I decided she was coming home with me.

She was in such a sad state that I had no choice but to have her shaved. Her coat was just mangled in knots that I was afraid brushing her would be painful, not for me, but for her. When I brought her home, she hid under the bed or on top of the fridge. I sat out cans of tuna, which won her trust. She lived almost six years after I adopted her before she passed away from old age. She became my lap cat, purring endlessly and always gave me kitty kisses on my hand or arm, whichever was closest to her. Such an amazing, lovable furbaby.

I did adopt one more cat a year after I got her. He was a stray kitten, running around the streets, barely a few months old. Sadly, one day, after he was over a year old, he got out of the house when I wasn’t home and I was never able to find him after that.

I miss both of my cats and having owned pets of my own, can attest on how they become your children. You tend to them; feed them, groom them, bath them, give them attention, love them. Animals are a part of your family. Mine had their own Christmas stockings and their own wrapped presents. They were my babies and when they were gone, I mourned them.

I currently don’t own any pets due to my living situation, but in the next few years, I’m hoping to change that.

One Word Photo Challenge: Teal

This week’s One Word Photo Challenge is Teal; a beautiful shade found on the color spectrum of blue, can be found in the pictures posted below.

If you have never known the love of a therapy horse, or have seen the love expressed between horse and rider, then hopefully you can see that and more expressed in the photos.

The ever so patient horse, encouraging the ever so gentle touch from a child with special needs is awe inspiring. Tears well up in my eyes with happiness, as I watch my daughter’s slow movements in her approach towards her therapy horse, Passion, who is moving in closer to my daughter for her to touch.

Horse/equine therapy, also known as Hippotherapy, has been very helpful with my daughter in teaching her to express herself more. Not only that, but it allows her to have a love for animals that she didn’t have before; she had expressed fear when any animal approached her, whether that animal was calm or not.

She expresses a giddy, “Hi, Passion.” before reaching up to brush her fingertips across Passion’s nose. Passion, a gentle therapy horse on Harmony In Hooves Farm, stands up to her name. Her gentle, calm nature would allowing anyone a chance to pet her. Horses can be very therapeutic and just being around her can be very calming.

You can check out my other blog post for more information on how horses can be therapeutic for special needs children.

The following photos is of some artwork pieces found in Bernice Gardens in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Love and Lost of a Furbaby

Lately, on facebook, I’ve been seeing people posting pictures of their furbabies and saying that they’ve recently crossed over the rainbow bridge. Just last Friday my sister, Jaci, said her last good-byes to her sweet furbaby, Mittens. She was 16 and such a sweet, lovable cat. I know that each time I visited, Mittens would come over to me, snuggle in my lap, and turn up her purrbox. How could you not fall in love with that?

My daughter had become close with Mittens as well and always gave her a gentle pet and a kiss before turning around and chasing the other, much younger cats in the house. There was something about Mittens that made my daughter be more gentle, lovable, and caring when she was around her. Maybe animals and autistic children have a secret way of communicating. However, I found it sweet and beautiful each time I saw them together.

Animals aren’t just pets, they’re family. I’ve had a couple of my own while I was living out on my own and can tell you that losing them was the hardest thing I had to endure, well, losing my grandpa a few years ago was actually the most hardest thing I’ve ever endured. Losing both of my cats was the second hardest.

Hugs to all of you who have lost your best friend, your furbaby!

Weekly photo challenge: Beginning

Image

The beginning of a new friendship

Since my daughter started doing hippotherapy (therapeutic riding) this past summer, she has a new found friendship with each horse she rides. Though in the picture she is seen leaning in to kiss a horse named Peaches, she usually rides another horse named Gilly.

Hippotherapy has helped her open up more with her confidence in horses and most other animals, as well as helped her open up with her speech. Up until the age of three she had barely an eight word vocabulary, whereas most kids that age has three times that many words in their vocabulary.

Hippotherapy helps keep her calm and relaxed to the point where she can use that energy to focus on other things, such as seeing the world around her and telling us about what she sees. When she isn’t riding, she is mostly focused on one thing and has to have help in redirecting her attention to something else.

Now that she is four years old, she has started talking more and is using actual sentences. She still babbles a lot, but it is the effort in trying to say what she has to say that counts.

Now for seven things about myself.

  1. I’m not much of a cake person, but I am a pie person; I love pie!
  2. I’m ambidextrous. I can write with both hands…legibly. I do a lot of things left handed and vice versa.
  3. I love video games….bought my daughter and I a new Xbox 360 Kinect. I have an Xbox and a PS2, but am using the new Xbox a lot now.
  4. Even though I was born in Arkansas, I’m not a true southerner…I don’t like cole slaw and catfish. I don’t hunt. I don’t have a thick southern accent. I don’t say ya’ll and fixin’. I think this has a lot to do with me being a military brat and growing up all over the states.
  5. I can actually work on my car…change the oil, spark plugs, brake pads, tires. My step-dad worked on cars a lot when I was growing up, so I learned quite a lot about cars.
  6. I hate coconut! Just can’t stand the taste and how it sticks to my teeth.
  7. I have a new craze for steampunk and am working on assembling my next Halloween costume for 2013.
