I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday…old habits are hard to break; it’s next door to Toys R Us, the place I was actually destined to stop. I walked around the shelves, stopping by the Science Fiction, as always, and found a few Doctor Who books, as well as a few Supernatural books (also a TV show; both are my favorites). I picked out a Doctor Who book and started to look for Torchwood, they had several books the last time I was here, but I wasn’t able to get one at that time. I looked all around and even asked, but no luck, they were only on e-readers. No worries, I’ll just check Amazon and see what I can find.
I continued walking around and ended up in the main center aisle where all the eye catchers are. Up front are the huge displays with the New Releases, then the tables with Best Sellers, and then the small tables with the holiday selections. I wasn’t interested in holiday selections, so I walked right passed it. Something familiar caught my eye. I turned, and there was a small display of the Elf on the Shelf. I let out a small laugh. There are two ornaments out for this little guy and two different books. I didn’t find the Elf on the Shelf itself, though I wouldn’t have bought it anyway, or would I?
I’ve been reading about this little guy here and there and I know the Elf on the Shelf is supposed to keep an eye out around the house and report all naughtiness back to Santa, that’s the whole purpose. But, the funny stories parents share about the things they do with their Elf on the Shelf, had me laughing. Some share pictures, which were too funny. Some of them were like pulling pranks on their own kids. It’s almost better than watching the Jimmy Kimmel YouTube challenges. I thought to myself, how much fun this would be if I had more than one child. Actually, with my one child and the shenanigans she gets into, it would probably be a lot of fun…probably too much fun! My grandpa was well known for his practical jokes; maybe I too should get an Elf on the Shelf and have a few laughs myself. Many of my friends and some family members are getting one or already have one.
How long has Elf on the Shelf been out? Do you have an Elf on the Shelf?
We don’t have an Elf on the Shelf, in fact I have only heard of it this year (thanks to the blogosphere). It does have a certain mischievous appeal though, something to add a little extra fun. Perhaps next year, perhaps never, we’ll see how I feel in 2013 😀
I’m thankful for the blogosphere on a lot of things these days! That’s how I first learned about the Elf. I’m going to wait til next year. My lil one is just now starting to know who Santa is. 😀
It creeps me out!
That’s understandable. 🙂
I just came home from my daughters curling practice and one of our coaches was telling us about her elf on the shelf, I just finished reading about the “elves”online, and of course made a quick stop here before dinner, wish I had known about these little guys sooner, what an awesome christmas tradition, they will definately be an addition to our household next year!!
I too am just learning about them this month…actually it was last week when I really first heard about them. Think I may give it a try next year. Hope you read about yours in your blog. 🙂
It’s funny I was thinking about it, and even crazier that when I came to visit your site you’d written about it. I just think its a really cool tradition to start and what great memories.
I just trying to come up with some things to start as traditions with my daughter. Kind of neat how you were talking about the Elf and signed on and saw my blog about it lol!
I think it’s been a year or two. But yeah, like Shannon, it creeps me out too. It’s way too Big Brother 1984 for my tastes. But I have friends who have it, so to each their own. 😉
Kinda of dollish creepy? They do have an old fashion look to them.
No, I don’t have one. This is the first time I’ve heard of it.
I’ve first heard about it on the blogosphere, then my sister got one (she has three boys), then a close friend got one (she has four kids). You should google it and see what comes up, you might find a few entertaining stories. Or find a few blogs here on wordpress.
My Grand daughter has one…her name is Holly and she is such a mischievousness character! One morning we found her hanging from the ceiling fan having a gay ole time…another morning she was in the Christmas tree holding an empty roll of toilet paper and the tree was completely rolled…another morning she was in my granddaughters barbie house dressed up in her barbie clothes…This morning…she is hanging onto a helium balloon floating around the house!!! Shhhhh….don’t tell anyone….but I think the adults are having more fun with it than the children!
Love your blog….I will be following yours as well!
Lol! I love it! See the adults get to have fun too! 🙂 Thank you for following, hope you enjoy reading my blog. Have a blessed week! 🙂
